I have been playing on a friends private minecraft server for about six months now and he has stopped hosting. All the people who originally played on his server are now looking at me to host a server of my own. I have been all over the internet looking for tutorials and even got a local server running, but I can't seem get others to connect to my computer. I've tried port forwarding but I'm using an outdated airport extreme and I think that may be my problem. I've even tried hamachi and have gotten people to connect but they can't play on the server. If anyone has any experience with this, please help.

I actually figured my problem out. My brother turned on my firewall making it so no one was able to connect. Another problem with setting up servers is the ***FAILED TO BIND TO PORT*** error message that may come up. This happens when you include you computers IP in the server.properties file, when you should keep that the IP blank in that file (unless using hamachi). To port forward, either look up a tutorial or use this application.

Port Map

Press the plus sign and put "25565" in the private port, public port, and desired port.

If you don't know how to get the IP to give your friends if you want them to connect, go here.
Remember NOT to put the IP you got from the link into the server.properties file, or you will get the error message.

I hope I could help anyone having problems with setting up there own minecraft server, or any server for that matter.

Well It's Djtamo and I that host a server but I gave my server to him, so you will have to take it up with him. I'm going to make a new one, an economy based one. Like where everything is modern and Townish like a city. My old on that I gave Djtamo is a Roleplaying server and the main mod is heroes, I'd like the advanced feel if you know what I mean. PM me or add me on skype kitteh.pants If you would like to help monitor the server with me.
